A 100% volunteer-based non-profit

Comforting little hearts, one gift at a time.

David's Legacy carries gifts into children's hospital rooms and supplies into disaster-struck communities. Bringing comfort, sharing hope, one delivery at a time.

Our Story

Born from love, grown by community.

Meet Tonya
01

Comfort for hospitalized children

Since 2013 we have delivered toys, blankets, games and comfort items to children's hospitals, so a hard hospital stay holds one bright moment. Comforting little hearts, one gift at a time.

02

Hope for hurting communities

When floods and storms tore through Eastern Kentucky, our volunteers showed up with water, food, diapers, supplies and shovels. Bringing comfort, sharing hope.

03

Completely volunteer-based

We do not take anything for ourselves. There are no salaries and no paid staff, so every dollar and every donated item goes exactly where it was intended to go.

What We Do

Bringing comfort, sharing hope.

Four ways our volunteers show up for children and for the communities we call home.

Children's Hospital Visits

Toys, blankets, games and comfort items delivered straight to patient rooms and playrooms at Kentucky Children's Hospital and beyond.

Disaster Relief Support

When flooding and storms hit Eastern Kentucky, we load trucks with water, food, diapers and cleaning supplies and stay long after the cameras leave.

Community Involvement

Collection bins, school and church drives, and neighbors helping neighbors right here in Garrard County and across the region.

100% Volunteer-Based

Nobody on our team takes a paycheck. Every donation goes directly to the children and families it was given for.

Meet the Founder

Tonya Charlton
In memory of David

In 1996, Tonya Charlton of Lancaster, Kentucky lost her second child, David, at birth. For years she visited his grave and left a toy there on his birthday.

In 2013, on what would have been David's 17th birthday, she carried those toys somewhere they could be held and played with instead: the Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington. For years the gifts arrived anonymously, every September 28.

In 2022, that quiet tradition officially became David's Legacy, a non-profit that now serves more children, more hospitals, and whole communities in crisis, powered entirely by volunteers.

“Comforting little hearts, one gift at a time.”
